Sure, certain wines pair with certain foods sublimely...but what about teevee shows? Moods? What do you drink while listening to Swedish Death Metal, or your spouse while he/she prattles on and on about how you never listen anymore? No one tackles these hard pairings, but I will. I can just visualize the spit-takes at an intimate wine tasting when that gets mentioned.
Maybe the stuffy wine elite here in NYC are more interesting than they let on to be.
The NYT Sunday Styles section is routinely filled with trashy journalism. Irreverent views on topics that authors know little about. It's a fluff piece -- an okay celebrity feature -- containing about one paragraph on actual winemaking. So I hope that is the trash you are referring to in your post title, not Ms Samson.
